Our History

Founded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada in 1992, Managing Director and Chief Engineer, Brad Henderson set out to develop a product unlike any other available on the market. Having worked in the underwater acoustic environment since 1984, Brad saw the need for a system that had two-way communication, as opposed to the traditional pinger based systems still in use today, and a sensor that offered true 360-degree, omnidirectional capability.

Managing Director and Chief Engineer

Brad developed a one sensor system, the GearFinder 700, which allowed Captains and Researchers to locate lost gear. Despite the cod moratorium, Brad spent the first years of business involved in oceanographic consulting work with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and other research organizations.

Picking up traction at home in Canada, Brad expanded the Notus team and made waves in Scotland, as the unique Notus capabilities were in high demand with the twin trawling industry.

Through Canada and Scotland combined, the Trawlmaster and Seinemaster systems were born.

With continued success in Scotland, Notus expanded throughout Europe with dealer networks in Scotland, Spain, UK, Denmark, Sweden, as well as the US, New Zealand and others. In 2010 Notus Maritima was established in Vigo, Spain to support our expanding customer base.
